|High Desert Writers|
WHAT HAPPENS AT OUR MEETINGS: We are primarily a writers’ critique group. Each member brings in about seven copies of up to seven pages of double-spaced fiction, nonfiction, or drama, or up to two poems. At the meeting, each writer reads his/her work aloud to the group and then receives verbal and written comments from all group members. The writer can give guidance about on what specific aspects of the work he/she would particularly like feedback. We strive to be honest, but gentle in our critiques. Members are not required to bring in something to read at every meeting, but are always expected to give feedback to those writers who bring in something to be critiqued. We also exchange information on writers’ conferences, publishing opportunities, and other aspects of our craft.
FOR MORE INFORMATION: The coordinator of the group is Leslie Clark, who also teaches creative writing classes at Cochise College and helps organize the annual Cochise Community Creative Writing Celebration. Contact her at 520-458-0498 or email@example.com.
BASICS: High Desert Writers’ Association has been meeting in Sierra Vista for about 15 years. We are open to writers of poetry, fiction, drama, and creative nonfiction at any level of writing experience. There is no cost to join, and new members are welcome. We encourage anyone interested to come to a meeting and see what we’re all about.
MEETING DATES AND TIMES: We meet the second Sunday of every month from 2-4 P.M. in the conference room at the Sierra Vista Public Library.
